2016 Cantina del Pino, Barbaresco, Ovello - Magnum

Cantina del Pino’s approach is rooted in rigorous vineyard stewardship, characterized by the absence of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides in their estate holdings around the Ovello hill. The family prioritizes long-term vine health, leveraging the deep root systems of their 70-year-old vines and minimal intervention in the cellar to ensure the site’s distinctiveness remains unadulterated. Situated at 300 meters above sea level, the Ovello vineyard features calcareous limestone soils interlaced with sandy veins, a composition that imparts a specific structural definition to the Nebbiolo grape. The 2016 vintage provided optimal climatic conditions, allowing for slow, balanced physiological ripening that preserved vibrant acidity and developed refined, firm tannins. This magnum release exhibits the characteristic structural tension of the site, yielding a dense, mid-palate density balanced by a persistent, chiseled architectural framework.
