2021 Chapelle St. Theodoric, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Le Grand Pin

The 2021 Chapelle St. Théodoric Châteauneuf-du-Pape "Le Grand Pin" is a pure expression of old-vine Grenache, primarily from 50 to 100-year-old vines rooted in the unique sandy soils of the Pignan lieu-dit in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. This AOC wine is a collaboration between Peter Weygandt and winemaker Baptiste Grangeon, who employ traditional, whole-cluster fermentation in concrete tanks and extended aging in older demi-muids from their biodynamically farmed vineyards. The challenging 2021 vintage, characterized by spring frosts and a later, cooler growing season, led to a smaller yield but imparted remarkable freshness, vibrant acidity, and lower alcohol to the wine. This results in an elegant and finely perfumed Châteauneuf-du-Pape, offering a "modern, classic style" that beautifully articulates its exceptional terroir and the producer's meticulous craft.
