2021 Comando G, Castilla y Leon, Las Iruelas El Tiemblo

At Comando G, they focus on reviving high altitude, old vineyards and showcasing the unique terroir of each of these old vineyard sites. Their wines are characterized by elegance, purity, and a sense of place, often displaying vibrant acidity and notes of red fruit, spice, and minerality – a bit atypical for this variety but quite like Chateau Rayas in the Rhone Valley. There is a soulful intensity to these wines that only the world’s greatest wines display - character, balance and just flat-out deliciousness. This single-plot wine comes from the most varied soils of Comando G farms: granite, slate, schist, and quartz with patches of clay. It's a 70-75-year-old vineyard planted at ~3300 feet above sea level on mostly slate soils in the DOP (appellation) of Cebreros near the town of El Tiemblo. '21 is a cooler vintage, so this red-fruited wine has fine tannins over a mineral core and a slightly herbaceous Mediterranean aromatic profile. This vintage drinks well in its youth and has many years of fruitful life ahead. A cellar-worthy, deeply mineral wine with Northern Rhone-like aromatics.
