2023 Coudert, Fleurie, Clos de la Roilette

Clos de la Roilette sits at the southern edge of Fleurie, right along the border with Moulin-à-Vent. That location shapes the wine: Fleurie’s perfume meets the darker, more structured style often associated with its powerful neighbor.

The Coudert family farms the vineyard as a single enclosed parcel planted on heavier clay soils rather than the pure granite found elsewhere in Fleurie. Those soils give the wine more depth and structure than the appellation’s famously delicate reputation might suggest.

The 2023 vintage shows the classic Roilette profile—ripe cherry, violet, and spice with a little more frame than most Fleurie. It’s one of the bottles that reminds people Beaujolais can be both joyful and serious at the same time.
