2019 Domaine de la Grande Colline, Syrah, VdF

Hervé Souhaut has developed a cult following for his Syrahs from the hills of the Ardèche, just west of Saint-Joseph. Though the vineyards sit beside the appellation, Souhaut bottles them simply as Vin de France.

The vines grow on decomposed granite similar to the slopes across the Rhône. Souhaut ferments with whole clusters and native yeasts, a choice that gives the wine its distinctive energy and texture.

The 2019 vintage was warm and generous. Dark fruit, pepper, and a faint smoky note—Syrah with depth, freshness, and the kind of balance that has made Souhaut one of the most sought-after producers in the region.
