2023 Domaine des Ardoisieres, Argile Blanc, Vin des Allobroges

This white blend is made up of 40% Jacquere, 40% Chardonnay and 20% Mondeuse Blanche. These grapes are grown high up in the Saint-Pierre-de-Socry and Apremont regions of the Savoie, looking at up Mont Blanc. The vineyards are situated on steep, challenging slopes, particularly those with black shale clay, which adds to the unique minerality of the wines and why this wine is called Argile (which means clay in French). This is bone dry, a little salty with lemon, green apple, white flowers and some minerality and texture. This is heroic wine made in a very non-invasive, hands-off way. No new wood and very little sulfur – super clean and just a revelation.
