2017 Michel Lafarge, Beaune, 1er Cru Les Aigrots Rouge - Magnum

The Lafarge family is a fixture of Volnay, though they’ve long held a small parcel in Beaune’s premier cru Les Aigrots, a hillside site just above the town where clay and limestone give the wines a bit more depth than the surrounding slopes.

The name Aigrots likely comes from the old Burgundian word “aigres,” referring to slightly sharp or lean ground—an early nod to the character of the site.

At Lafarge the cellar work stays traditional: native fermentations and élevage in mostly older barrels. The wine leans toward plum, forest floor, and a gentle savory edge.
