2021 Domaine Thibert, Pouilly-Vinzelles, Les Longeays

Domaine Thibert is a really special grower in the Macon, the southernmost part of Burgundy where they are well known for creating rich, inexpensive and usually quite uninteresting wines. However, over the past 20 years or so, a number of really incredible growers have elevated the game and produced wines that would rival those in the Côte d’Or. Thibert is one such Domaine, and, lucky for them, they will greatly benefit from 2024 onward, as many of their vineyards (including Les Longeays in Pouilly-Vinzelles) will receive Premier Cru classification. 2021 is a cooler vintage, and so this shows the mineral, salty nature of this site in a fresh, linear way. So much depth and nuance to this. A great White Burg to have around as it's very versatile- fried/roast chicken to halibut/richer shellfish. Mineral, focused wine with tons of complexity for the price.
