2020 Giuseppe Rinaldi, Barolo, Bussia

The wines of Giuseppe Rinaldi reflect a deeply traditional vision of Barolo. Fermentations are long, extraction is patient, and aging takes place in large old casks rather than small barriques. The goal is not to shape the wine in the cellar but to allow Nebbiolo and site to articulate themselves with clarity.

Bussia lies in the commune of Monforte d'Alba, where compact marl and limestone soils tend to produce Barolo with breadth and structure. Compared with the more lifted profile of Rinaldi’s Brunate and Le Coste bottlings, Bussia often shows a broader frame and a deeper register of fruit.

The 2020 vintage brings a generous expression of the site. Aromas lean toward red plum, dried rose, orange peel, and alpine herbs. On the palate the wine opens gradually, with firm, grainy tannins and a core of savory fruit that carries through a long, quietly mineral finish. This bottle was built to evolve with time.
