2021 Graci, Etna Rosso

Graci’s vines are planted at very high density at 1800-2000 ft, the very limit of viticulture! He’s located at the northeastern slope of Mt. Etna at Passopisciaro, directly above Catania, where these volcanic sites produce wines that beg comparison to Burgundy’s Pinot Noir. Why? They display ‘power without weight’. There’s so much flavor and character in these reds, but they feel delicate and energetic on the palate. Many are from ungrafted, pre-phylloxera vines. The Etna Rosso is a lovely blend of strawberry, cherry, roses, and volcanic earthy grip. Fermentation is in concrete tanks and elevage in Stockinger barrels. Farming is certified organic. The fruit here is perfumed, with wild herbs, smoky morello cherry, and in ’21 is still lifted and bright.
