2022 Henri Magnien, Gevrey-Chambertin, 1er Cru Les Champeaux

Henri Magnien is a newer arrival (1987) on the Burgundy scene, but he’s made a name for himself with his recent string of vintages. It helps that his estate is lucky to hold a large collection of old vines in and around Gevrey. These are the types of red Burgundies we love; they speak of their unique soils, and the oak aging regimen is skillfully managed (to the point where we don’t think about oak!). The Champeaux is an exceptional wine from an exceptional vineyard site. Champeaux makes some of the greatest Gevrey out there, and Henri Magnien’s displays this pedigree—greater complexity, greater lift and elegance. A special wine to mark a special moment. Try these wines with a buttery roast chicken, or if you enjoy duck, try them alongside a magret or confit. Sure to please!
