Michter’s US★1 Barrel Strength Sour Mash is a limited-release Kentucky whiskey crafted to bridge the gap between bourbon and rye. Because of its unique grain bill, it cannot be strictly categorized as either, instead deliberately balancing the inherent sweetness of a bourbon with the spice of a rye. Under the direction of Master Distiller Dan McKee, the spirit is produced via the classic sour mash method, entering toasted and fire-charred new American white oak barrels at 103 proof.

It matures under the supervision of Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson until the tasting panel determines it is ready to be batched at its natural cask strength. This specific 2026 release is bottled between 110.4 and 112.6 proof and undergoes Michter's signature mellowing filtration prior to bottling. The resulting profile opens with sweet aromatics that transition into concentrated notes of dark cherry, plum, and powdered cocoa. It finishes with a well-integrated, warming spice that provides precise structure against the whiskey's rich, honeyed core.
