2017 Pierre Morey, Monthelie Rouge

Domaine Pierre Morey is based in Meursault and has farmed biodynamically since the late 1990s, with a cellar approach built around native fermentations, careful extraction and restrained oak. This Monthélie comes from vines planted in 1965 on red clay, chalk and rocky limestone.  The hillside terrain, with its mineral-rich composition and natural drainage, imparts the firm structure and subtle earthiness the appellation is known for. 2017 is a good fit for the site. The vintage brought clean fruit and moderate structure, letting the wine show wild berry, cherry and a light chalky grip without feeling hard. A useful bottle for Burgundy drinkers who want something classic and tied to a respected Meursault domaine.
