2016 Yarra Yering, Dry Red No 1, Victoria

Yarra Yering is a boutique winery in Australia’s Yarra Valley known for their restrained, age-worthy reds. This is our favorite cuvee from them. It is a Cabernet-driven Bordeaux blend using only top-quality grapes - including fruit from mature estate vines (some original 1969 Cabernet plantings in their famed Block N°1). The Cabernet is crushed for structure, while other varieties often go in as whole berries for aromatics. A third of the Cabernet even sees an extended 8-week skin maceration in a large upright oak cask, building even more depth and complexity. In a great drinking window now. A benchmark Aussie wine.
