Pineau des Charentes is not a product that finds its way out of Cognac with any regularity, and especially not across the pond. It's made by halting fermentation of wine by adding Cognac, resulting in a aperitif of about 17% alcohol that's served cool alongside strong cheeses and desserts. Navarre uses Merlot and Cabernet Franc for the rosé wine base and blends this with 16 year old Cognac to create this delicious libation. Think slightly nutty, honeyed and spicy with a touch of dried oranges, a hint of sweetness and refreshing acid cut. We're told this will keep for up to a month after opening in the fridge, but we bet it won't last that long once you taste it.
