We tasted a lot of bourbons when deciding which barrel we wanted to call our own, and this is the one that ran away with the medal. We have lots of high-rye bourbons here at the shop so it was no surprise to us that this one won the shootout, even beating out some lovely young Pappy/Weller-style wheated bourbons (they also make wheated bourbon and you should absolutely check that out as well).
This particular barrel is reminiscent of pancakes covered in peaches, bananas, and Lyle’s Golden Syrup, zhuzhed up with some barrel and rye spice and a spot of cooling herbs, something we’ve found typical of their rye-based offerings. Richly textured and a real pleasure to drink straight (even at the not-so-subtle proof of 102), on the rocks, or in a top-notch Manhattan should you be so bold, this is a real must-have for your back bar.
This is a monstrously good follow-up to our last barrel, and we can’t wait for you to try it!
