Domino del Aguila is a top-notch Spanish producer that has been making waves among connoisseurs and critics. We only receive a small allocation of their very top wines. This wine hails from a vineyard that’s surrounded by forest. The bottling’s name, Peña Aladas, means ‘winged stones’, and refers to a tiny group of small, rocky vineyard sites that are all well over 100 years old. The soil here is thin, sandy clay over hard limestone bedrock. The grapes from this zone require an especially long time in oak to soften and evolve (51 months). It was never the intention at Domino del Aguila to make a Gran Reserva, but as they were already following the aging requirements it just made sense to classify that way! This may be their very best wine for the money.
