I have three questions for you: 1) Do you just LOVE capers? 2) Do you love seafood? 3) Do you like the herb-inflected flavor profile of orange wine? If you can answer yes to all three, then here is a unique contender for your new favorite wine.
The winemakers for il Tuffielo (the Zampaglione brothers) previously worked at different cult Italian winery, La Stoppa, which ended up greatly influencing their style. This is a very unique Fiano that is ready for a whole legion of umami savory and fishy foods: oysters, shrimp, grilled fish, linguine alla vongole, and also mushrooms.
This Fiano spent 60 days macerating on its skins--as a result, there is a pronounced herbal signature to the wine, in addition to a smoky saltiness evident on the finish. I'd immediately imagined drinking it with fried, tiny fish, slathered in salt. This wine will likely benefit from either bottle age or a bit of time in the decanter, as it was aged entirely in stainless steel and can prove reductive upon opening.
