Domaine Harmand-Geoffroy is one of those reliable estates that will likely always exist just on the fringe of popularity. The 9ha domaine is planted wholly to Pinot Noir, all of which exists exclusively in Gevrey-Chambertin. This fact alone is reason for pause, as it shows just how committed the family is to the village. However, added to this dedication is a selection of highly sought after sites, Champeaux being one of them. The premier cru (a meager .2 hectares of vines) sits atop a rocky face of the Combe de Lavaux, a rather cool site, containing vines planted over 80 years ago. A site like this fared extremely well in a vintage like 2018, as the nobility and pedigree of the terroir are able to shine through despite the heat. Champeaux is famous for producing wines of great nuance and complexity and this wine will deliver that in spades. Decanting is beneficial, and once ready, the wine is bright and fascinating aromatically, with each swirl in the glass revealing new layers. On the palate it's all about silky texture, striking intensity, minerality, and remarkable length. Only 300 bottles imported to the US annually!
