Romeo del Castello is a top-notch Etna producer that remains more under the radar than some of the marquee producers in the zone. Their wines are extremely soulful, elegant examples of what make Etna so exciting these days. Operated by Rosanna Romeo and her daughter Chiara Vigo, they farm organically and make the wines quite naturally in the cellar. Their 2018 Allegracore is a supremely charming Etna rosso, completely open now and an absolute joy to drink. Expect buoyant red fruit flecked with red roses and blood orange alongside plenty of mineral cut and whispery tannins. It almost impossible to drink without cracking a big smile! 100% Nerello Mascalese from 20-year-old vines, fermented and aged in steel. Bottled lightly filtered and unfined with minimal added sulfur.
