Once you taste a Ferrando Carema that’s firing on all cylinders, that’s all it takes to join the ranks of believers who cellar these fine wines year after year. Ferrando is the most iconic and storied Carema producer. The ’64, ’67, ’71, and ’74 Ferrando Carema Etichetta Bianca bottles count among the most memorable and amazing Nebbiolo wines we’ve ever tasted, and the ’19 vintage has yielded another benchmark example.
Ferrando farms 2.5ha, all trained in pergola, an old technique used to maximize sun exposure that is perfectly suited to this alpine terroir. The Etichetta Bianca (white label) is 100% Nebbiolo fermented with indigenous yeast in stainless steel, then aged for 30 months in old barrels and a further 6 in bottle before release. Full of driving, kinetic energy, this wine will reward patience and thrive in the cellar for many decades to come. This is world-class, complex Nebbiolo that deserves a place in your cellar. It is a fuller-bodied example with firm, but ripe tannins and features darker red fruits and an intoxicating blast of high-toned spices and earthy mountain herbs. Never an overwhelmingly powerful wine, “Etichetta Bianca” derives its sense of structure more from its acid / fruit tension than its tannins. We believe this is a benchmark wine and one you should tuck away in the cellar year in and year out.
