Guillaume Gilles’ father was a teacher in Lyon, but his grandfather was none other than renowned Cornas vigneron Marcel Juge. But Gilles’ entrée into winemaking was made when another Cornas legend, Robert Michel, was seeking an apprentice. Gilles enthusiastically embraced the traditions of his forebears, and – along with his partner, Emilie – has quickly established this as one of the best addresses for powerful, meaty, and structured Cornas that are built to last. 'Les Rieux' is a lighter, more red fruited wine that harkens back to Cornas of yesteryear. From a site at 400+ meters altitude.
“Dark magenta. Expressive aromas of black raspberry and cherry preserves, lavender and Moroccan spices are complemented by a smoky mineral top note. Sweet and seamless on the palate, offering incisive red and dark berry, cola and floral pastille flavors, with suggestions of licorice and allspice. At once powerful and graceful in style, finishing with superb persistence and slowly emerging, polished tannins.” -95 points (Drink 2026-2035) Josh Raynolds, Vinous 12/22
