The Nebbiolo grape needs little introduction to anyone familiar with the best wines of Northern Italy. In Carema, as in many of the other beautiful Nebbiolo-based wines from the outer reaches of Piedmont, it sings a somewhat different tune. Barolo and Barbaresco drinkers will find some familiarity in the captivating aromatics that this wine shows, but there is a finesse and elegance to this wine that is totally unique. Carema is quite a cool appellation, but it is blessed with plenty of sunlight and an exceptionally long growing season. This helps to create wines of noticeable freshness with a complexity and depth that seem almost at odds with their lithe character.
