Envinate is one of the most exciting projects in Spain and the Canary Islands. This wine hails from mainland Spain, and is among the finest examples in the region. Lousas is named for a local type of slate found in the Ribeira Sacra. This is Envinate’s village wine from the Ribeira Sacra, comprised primarily of Mencia with around 5% co-planted grapes. All the vines are at least 60 years old and planted on steep slopes between 400-600m on slate soil. Grapes are gently foot trod and fermented in open top tubs with 40% whole clusters included. The wine has pure red fruit with fresh gratings of black pepper and a very flinty minerality. Lean but with great balance, the texture is more silky than sharp. It’s a lovely bottle of Ribeira Sacra, perfect for lamb, jamon, roasted vegetables, or charcuterie.
