Graci’s vines range in altitude from 500m to a stunning 1000m above sea level, the very limit of viticulture! In the shadow of Mt. Etna, directly above Catania, these volcanic sites produce wines that beg comparison to Burgundy’s Pinot Noir. Why? They display ‘power without weight’. There’s so much flavor and character in these reds, but they feel delicate and energetic on the palate. Many are from ungrafted, pre-phylloxera vines. The Etna Rosso is a lovely blend of strawberry, cherry, roses, and volcanic earthy grip. The Arcuria is smokier and earthier, the product of a prized single vineyard with low-yielding vines—Arcuria ages 6 months longer than the Etna Rosso, in large, chestnut botti instead of concrete, so let these breathe in a decanter for an hour before enjoying. All are excellent partners to lightly charred, fatty fish! -Jonny Lips
