Pedro Parra works behind the scenes as a geologist with some of the most well-respected producers in wine (Jean-Marc Roulot & Comando G, to name a few). After years of traveling and providing his expertise all over the world, he has returned to his roots in Chile to create his own project. Having a PhD in terroir, he has a unique understanding of the role geology plays in vine health. He quite literally goes “digging for rocks” to gain clarity as to what his vines are dealing with beneath the surface. He is now making world-class wines in Itata, Chile and putting this little-known region on the map, proving the volcanic and granite soils of this region can produce exciting, terroir-driven wines that are just as buzz-worthy as other top wine regions. Named after Thelonius Monk, who Pedro Parra describes as "complex and innovative", this wine is structured while still being refined and elegant. Its ethereal layers unfold over time as you sip, just as an accomplished pianist reveals layers of character and harmony. Fresh and vibrant, like hearing your favorite song for the first time.
