Dalia Maris is a project founded by Giampaolo Venica, whose family’s winery – Venica e Venica – is among the most historic and notable in Friuli. The Piccolo Bianco is a blend of Friulano and Ribolla Gialla. Dalia Maris takes its name from the Latin phrase “Stella Maris”, an expression meaning “look to the north star”; a phrase that encapsulates the freedom to navigate, which signals hope. Dalia is Giampaolo’s grandmother’s name. As those close to him know, Giampaolo has spent several harvests with Jean-Louis Chave in St. Joseph in the Rhone Valley, heading straight to Hermitage directly after finishing harvest at Venica in 2017, 2018 and 2019. From the back label: "Dalia Maria is inspired by the noble whites of Hermitage, harnessing the force of our indigenous grapes through the complexity that only a marriage of different vineyards can achieve. Vines of 60/80 years and very low yields allow maximum terroir expression: the warmth of the sun and the salt of our sea. While the noble and predominant expression takes the initial cue from the vineyard, Piccolo welcomes the rest, expressing more immediate crunchiness. I am hugely grateful to Jean-Louis Chave, who not only inspired me and welcomed me into his home, but helped me enormously with his precious barrels." - Giampaolo Venica (winemaker)
