This is a Nebbiolo grown not far from the Alps, in the heart-wrenchingly gorgeous tiny hamlet of Sondrio. Sondrio is a town perched above the Adda River, which cleaved the mountain range in two to create a valley with steep, sun-drenched slopes that are ideal for making soil-driven Nebbiolo. This Nebbiolo doesn’t have a wall of tannin to confront, as some young Nebbiolo can; instead, it presents a bit more like a fruit-driven Pinot Noir, if you can believe it! Concentrated cherry fruit and subtle violet aromas waft from the glass, and there’s a sense of transparency here that’s admirable. -Jonny Lips
