Domaine Monier-Perreol is a partnership between Jean-Pierre Monier based in the village of Saint-Desirat and his close friend Philippe Perréol. Both were earlier adopters of Biodynamic farming practices, with Jean-Pierre incorporating them as early as 1996, eventually encouraging them to cease selling fruit to the local co-op and begin domaine bottling in 2001. Now they stand as some of the most exciting, and certainly some of our favorite, St. Joseph on the market today. The St. Jo Rouge represents the lion’s share of their production and comes from five plots over granite & loess in Brunieux, a lieux-dit in the hills above the village of Saint-Désirat. 35-year-old vines are being progressively replanted with massale selections from old vineyards across the estate. This wine is aged 11 months in 2 – 6-year-old barrels. This is always a joy to drink in its youth and one of our favorite wines to chill down a bit and indulge with a burger!
