We have lots of love and admiration for Muscadet, but it's tough to find a more dependable, classic rendition than Pepière’s old vines Briords. Despite its remarkably friendly price tag, we believe this is one of the greatest dry white wines made in the Loire Valley! These 60 plus year old, Melon de Bourgogne vines are planted on red granite de Thébaud and yield an intensely mineral, complex, dry joyous wine. What’s more, you can drink it now and enjoy it alongside raw oysters or simply as a cocktail. Or, you could choose to cellar some and see it evolve into something even more exceptional. The ’23 vintage is the best Briords since Marc Ollivier retired in ‘19, and we think the first to rival the lofty heights he routinely achieved. Today this wine is chalky, salty and mineral with richness/power and bright acidity – it’s in perfect balance – over time we believe it will become more savory, creamy and herbaceous. This would cellar for more than a decade if you could resist it.
