This is a brilliant wine, from the steeply-sloped coastal vineyard sites of the tourist-invaded region of Liguria/Cinqueterre. Whites made from Vermentino are a specialty here (the local clone is called Pigato, and locals swear up and down it’s not Vermentino) but the secret gems of the region are these lighter, savory reds made from Rossese that feel like they have nearly invisible tannins and seem to work with every dish you can imagine. A crowd-pleaser, and just great with a chill.
