There is a quiet, soulful intensity to the wines of Olek Bondonio that remains unmatched in the Langhe. Working out of his family’s ancient farmhouse, Cascina La Berchialla, Olek operates with a humility that belies the sheer pedigree of his fruit. Today, we are thrilled to offer his 2024 Langhe Nebbiolo.
The 2024 vintage was not without its trials. A wet spring and a harvest punctuated by rain demanded a true vigneron’s touch. Olek rose to the occasion, choosing to declassify fruit from his prized Barbaresco crus, Roncagliette and Starderi, with an additional component from parcels in San Lorenzo in Barolo, into this single, extraordinary cuvée.
The 2024 Langhe Nebbiolo is a wine of translucent beauty and lift. It opens with an effusive bouquet of crushed red berries, dried rose petals, and that unmistakable hint of "terriccio" (wet earth) found in the most soulful, site-specific Nebbiolo. On the palate, the wine is mid-weight and energetic, showing a level of finesse that is seldom found at this price point. Finely woven tannins provide a sturdy frame for flavors of medicinal cherry, blood orange, and spice. It finishes with impressive tension and length, offering the structure of a Barbaresco with the immediate accessibility of a Langhe bottling.
This is Nebbiolo at its most transparent: fermented in concrete with indigenous yeasts and aged in large Slavonian botti to preserve every ounce of site expression.
