Welcome back to our Saturday Tasting Series! This weekend we will be yet again pouring some wines at the shop starting at around 2:30pm. Expect a laid back environment, with some interesting insights about both wines being shared by Otis, Julie, and Miles. We will have wine open until around 5:30 pm, so come have a glass, chat with us, and maybe even walk out with new friends and a bottle of something for yourself!
This week we are going to be pouring two wines from regions in France that we feel are unfairly overlooked at times.
2023 Clos de la Vierge - Jurancon Sec $27.99/bottle ($25.19 with case discount)
The oft unheard of AOC of Jurancon, located deep in the South of France near the city of Pau and nearly at the base of the Pyrenees, come some spectacular, and wallet friendly white and dessert wines. The bottle we will be pouring this weekend is produced by Clos de la Vierge. The estate is run by two 70 year old women who tend vines nearly as old as they are! Composed of 100% Gros Manseng, a grape appropriately named for the richness it gives the wine it produces. Expect a rich, textured white with enough tension to stand up to any food you throw at it!
2023 Georges Descombes - Morgon Vieilles Vignes $41.99/bottle ($37.79 with case discount)
A true Cru Beaujolais from old vines in Morgon, the Descombes Morgon is what you look for in a reasonably priced bottle of Beaujolais. Unfairly considered by some to be the younger brother of Burgundy, we are of the opinion that well made Cru Bojo stands up to many wines coming out of Burgundy at two, three, and even four times their price points from Burgundy. George Descombes is teetering on the edge of being the 5th member of the “gang of 4,” the highest honor to bestow on a producer in Morgon. 100% organically farmed and with extremely sparing use of sulfur exclusively at the bottling stage leads to exactly what you hope for our of a Morgon, a wine that is true to its terroir!
