This is a blend of three carefully selected, full-proof single casks of 6 year old Isle of Arran Scotch malt whisky that were distilled in 2012 at the Arran distillery, one of the few independent distilleries in Scotland. The first two casks were unpeated, and the third was peated.
The first cask of unpeated whisky aged in first-fill ex-Bourbon barrel, the second unpeated whisky in first-fill ex-Sherry cask, and the third peated whisky was also aged in first-fill ex-Bourbon barrel. Each cask then aged from 2012 until the summer of 2019.
The casks were shipped to Cognac, where a final blending was done in used Cognac barrels. The resulting elixir was bottled without additives, unfiltered, at a full proof cask strength of 46.8% ABV.
In spite of the label, the whisky is actually now 8 years old. ‘We hit that print button early’, PM Spirits quipped.
As you can imagine given the blend, the peat influence is subtle. Count on characteristic citrus and sea spray aromas typical to the Isle of Arran, enrobing a rich, polished, warming fruit.
