This alluring Meursault was sourced from a single parcel directly beneath the village of Meursault, with vines planted in 1960. Pierre-Henri has radically reconfigured his family domain since taking the reins in 2010, striving to leave all barrels in the cellar unsulphured until their final phases of life--he systematically makes two different styles of wine; one sulphured, the other completely unsulphured. Unsulphured cuvees announce themselves with different, sideways labels, by comparison to the standard cuvees which have standard labels. The Sous la Velle is hand-harvested, then ages 18 months in a tiny bit (15%) of new oak which punctuates a majority of used (1-5 yr old) oak. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, this is a generous Meursault that retains a sense of tension and energy.
