Jerome Galeyrand is an example of one of those producers who has really made a mark with less famous terroirs. Of course, we know the Grand Cru and Premier Cru sites around the Cote d’Or yield the most incredible wines, but we’re finally seeing these less famous vineyard areas get the same care, love, and attention and, as a result, the quality of the wines from these vineyards has never been higher. His wines are pure representations of fantastic terroirs - good concentration and energy, balanced, buoyant and refined. Good farming and a responsible use of new oak. Very sensible, with great cellar potential - these are lovely wines you open and always wish you had more of.
The Fixin Champs de Charmes hails from a .42ha plot of vines planted in 1947; it is a markedly cool site, featuring deep soils with limestone and rich clay. The gently-pressed organically and biodynamically farmed grapes are 100% de-stemmed, ferment on indigenous yeast, then age for 16 months in barrel (20% of which is new oak).
