Chablis is home to some truly incredible expressions of white Burgundy. Add to that equation the winemaking prowess of an estate like Lavantureux and you have the makings of bottles fit for the cellar. The winery has been around since 1978, producing wines of prestige and, though they've never claimed a piece of the spotlight for their own, their philosophy is very much similar to that of Dauvissat or Raveneau. For their Grand Crus, they ferment and age in barrel (just like further down south) and this brings about a majestic structure, which allows for considerable ageability. Bougros is a ripe site that did especially well in 2021, possessing layers of intricacy, as well as a structure built for the long haul. There are very few opportunities to buy Grand Crus in Burgundy for under $150 per bottle. However, in Chablis, it’s a bit more common to find them at reasonable prices, and this is case and point. Enjoy now with a good decant or tuck away for many years in the cellar.
