Young vigneron Xavier Gérard was recommended to importer Neal Rosenthal via Bernard Levet, whom Gérard staged with. The winery is based in Condrieu, but also makes fabulous Côte-Rôtie from some rather choice plots – including La Landonne. He took over from his father in 2012, and has gradually adopted his own style. These are polished (but not overpolished!) wines with pure, vibrant, and concentrated fruit and clear underlying minerality. For anyone looking to explore Côte-Rôtie’s suave side, look no further. La Mollard is a relatively new site (first vintage 2019) for Xavier. Bright, almost Burgundian, fine tannins.
