It was a bottle of Tissot Bruyères, served blind to Guillaume d’Angerville, which revealed to him the Jura’s potential as he was utterly convinced it was an exceptional white Burgundy; when the waiter remarked it was from the Jura, Guillaume set about his plans to make wine there — setting in motion what would eventually become Domaine du Pelican.
2018 is the first time that many of these wines have been isolated into lieux-dits and bottled by individual cru, and 2018 was stellar vintage across the Jura region. Grand Curoulet is often regarded as the first vineyard site in all of the Jura, where a windy corridor and a north-facing exposition make for a later-ripening site. About 1/3 is planted to Chardonnay, all located at the very top of the vineyard.
