Charly Thevenet is the son of lauded Morgon producer, Jean-Paul, and is turning into quite the producer in his own right. When he's not working alongside his father, he's focusing on this wine, which comes from a 70+ year old parcel of vines in Regnie just below Morgon's famed Cote du Py. Over the past few vintages he's switched to using cement tanks for aging, and the wines have an added level of clarity and brightness as a result. This couples some of the drive of his father's style with the freshness of another mentor, Lapierre.
Lurid violet. Highly expressive red/blue fruit and floral aromas are complemented by suggestions of exotic spices, earth and succulent herbs. Sweet and penetrating on the palate, offering vibrant black raspberry liqueur, cherry and lavender pastille flavors that are given spine and lift by a core of zesty minerality. In a lively style, finishing sappy, sweet and very long, with just a touch of silky tannins and a repeating floral note.
