Clemens Busch is a singular producer of Mosel Riesling, crafting stunning wines with natural techniques from an enviable collection of vineyards that have been farmed organically since the 1980s, now certified biodynamic. His estate is based around the Marienburg vineyard which is home to varying patches of red, blue, and grey slate – each in turn yielding Rieslings of distinct character. His Riesling vom blauen schiefer, Riesling from the blue slate, come from a steep vineyard in the Fahrlay subzone. Blue slate is physically tougher than red or gray slate and yields Riesling with a particularly mineral and stony bent showcasing a steely texture with lush citrus, tart stone fruit, and enticing blue florals. Bone dry and medium bodied, this is a Riesling with some power behind it that remains focused rather than opulent. Dry.
