It was a bottle of Tissot Bruyères, served blind to Guillaume d’Angerville, which revealed to him the Jura’s potential as he was utterly convinced it was an exceptional white Burgundy; when the waiter remarked it was from the Jura, Guillaume set about his plans to make wine there — setting in motion what would eventually become Domaine du Pelican. Try this crowd-pleasing bottle that’s a lovely introduction to both the Jura and d’Angerville’s work. This cuvée has been made since the beginning of Domaine du Pélican in 2012. It’s sourced from several different parcels of vineyards located in Arbois and Montigny-lès-Arsures. The vineyards sit mostly on hilltops, over marly soils. Their altitude is the highest of the estate’s holdings - close to 400m in elevation. The wine offers a perfect, alluring balance of everything we love in the Jura. A real treat to be able to sample an aged magnum.
