Nicolas Mariotti Bindi originally left Corsica to become a lawyer on the French mainland but felt drawn back to a life in the vines. After stints working in Moulin-a-Vent and with Corsican legend Antoine Arena he founded his own winery in 2007 with the purchase of 7 hectares in Patrimonio. The estate is now comprised of 15 hectares of largely head trained vines that are farmed organically. The Cantina di Torra rouge is drawn from a north facing plot of Niellucciu with vines ranging from 10-50 years old. The cuvee serves as an entry point to the winery’s offerings, intentionally made to be enjoyed young upon release. The 2019 Cantina di Torra rouge sports crunchy, dark fruit with Mediterranean herbs, moist earth, and just a whiff of smoke. The palate is quite lifted with only 12.2% alcohol and faint tannins; that said the wine really begins to show 30 minutes after opening when the more savory flavors give way to pure, joyous fruit. This will pair with all sorts of foods but is a perfect match for grilled sausage, pepperoni pizza, charcuterie, or summer tomatoes. Hand harvested, fermented whole cluster, aged in concrete tanks for 6 months. Bottled unfiltered with minimal sulfite additions.
