Roland Lavantureux is a Kermit Lynch producer who has been selling fine Chablis to Kermit for over 35 years. His name is still fairly unknown, because their production is so small that the wines are rarely seen. When Lavantureux wines were first imported in the late 1970’s, he was only producing a Chablis and Petit Chablis; after Roland stepped back in 2010 to pass the family business on to his two sons, they began to expand their holdings and improve the winemaking process. In recent years, they’ve been on a high note, with the addition of many 1er and Grand Cru vineyards and a string of successful vintages.
There are very few opportunities to buy Grand Crus in Burgundy for under $150 per bottle. However, in Chablis, it’s a bit more common to find them at reasonable prices, and this is case in point. Les Preuses is known for producing a fleshy wine but without any heaviness which can be largely attributed to the fractured rock formation and good drainage that you can find in this special vineyard.
